Alon Siton has compiled this concise history of the railways of Palestine and Israel. It starts with the Jaffa & Jerusalem Railway opened in 1892, and there are then chapters on World War I, the Hedjaz Railway, Palestine Railways, World War II and the end of the British mandate with the Israeli declaration of independence in 1948.
The last chapter covers Israeli Railways in the period since the establishment of the State of Israel.
Each chapter starts with a short introduction describing the main developments and the political situation during the period in question, and there are several photos of trains, stations and railway infrastructure including images of damage caused by armed conflicts and attacks.
Reproductions of official publicity by railway operators and train builders are also featured. At the back there is a short chapter on railway heritage sites in Israel and a fleet list covering all locos to have run in Palestine and Israel since the opening of the Jaffa & Jerusalem Railway.
Approximately 25 colour and 110 black & white photographs. 88 pages.
