Colin Alexander has compiled this collection of photographs by the late Neville Stead from across the counties of Northumberland and Durham mostly taken in the 1950s and early 1960s.

There are chapters covering the East Coast Main Line in each of the two counties, while other routes featured include rural lines in the Anglo-Scottish border counties, the Blyth & Tyne Railway, the Tyne Valley Line, the Durham coast route, and the North and South Tyneside networks which today form part of the Tyne & Wear Metro.

Most of the photographs are of steam-hauled passenger and freight trains and locos on shed. Some DMUs, North Eastern Railway and LNER electric units are also featured along with a South Tyneside 1951 Stock unit that later ran on the Southern Region as a 2-EPB.

Contains around 150 black & white photographs, each accompanied by an extensive caption. 112 pages.
